Approximately 15 minutes from Camping La Plage in Meyronne, the Castagné Walnut Oil Mill, in Martel (Les Landes), opens its doors to you, showcasing local expertise centered around an emblematic product: Périgord walnuts.
At the heart of the family walnut grove, the Castagné family perpetuates a tradition passed down through several generations, in an authentic place where you can understand (and taste) the terroir of the Lot region.
The Mill and the Farm
In Martel, Maison CastagnĂ© welcomes you to the heart of a family walnut grove: the CastagnĂ© family has been producing for 6 generations, with today 47 hectares of organic walnut trees. The visit allows you to understand the entire journey âfrom tree to product,â then (depending on the period) to witness the real-time production of walnut oil, always followed by a tasting. The mill also operates for its own production and as a custom mill for individuals.
The Local Products Shop
After the visit, itâs time for something tasty: the shop highlights artisan walnut oil (walnuts hot-pressed and bottled on site) and, more broadly, the houseâs walnut-based products⊠along with their âlocal produceâ world (Maison CastagnĂ© is also presented as a producer of organic wine). Itâs the perfect place to pick up a souvenir to cook at the campsite: a good oil for salads, cheese, or to add a twist to simple dishes.
